Editorial Policies and Peer Review Process
MycoAsia is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of editorial integrity and scholarly rigor. Our processes are designed to be transparent, fair, and efficient, ensuring that all submitted research is evaluated thoroughly by experts in the field.
Manuscript Submission
Submission Portal: All manuscripts must be submitted through our online submission system.
Initial Submission Format: For the convenience of our authors, no specific manuscript format is required at the initial submission stage. This allows you to submit your work in a format that best suits your research. Formatting will be requested after the peer review process, should revisions be required.
Required Documents: A complete submission must include a cover letter, the main manuscript text (including figures, tables, and references), and formal declarations on authorship and any conflicts of interest.
The Peer Review Process
MycoAsia operates a single-blind peer review process. In this model, the identities of the authors are known to the reviewers, but the reviewers’ identities are concealed from the authors during the evaluation period. This approach allows reviewers to assess the work with full context while ensuring they can provide candid feedback without direct influence.
Initial Editorial Assessment: Upon receipt, each manuscript undergoes an initial quality check by the Editorial Office. This assessment screens for adherence to the journal’s scope, overall scientific quality, and potential publication ethics issues such as plagiarism or redundant publication. Manuscripts that do not meet these initial criteria may be returned to the authors without external review.
Assignment to Handling Editor: Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment are assigned to a Handling Editor with relevant expertise. The Handling Editor is responsible for overseeing the entire peer review process.
Invitation to Reviewers: The Handling Editor selects and invites at least two independent expert reviewers to evaluate the manuscript. Reviewers are chosen based on their expertise, publication record, and lack of any potential conflicts of interest.
Review and Recommendation: Reviewers assess the manuscript for scientific novelty, methodological soundness, and the validity of its conclusions. They provide detailed reports and a recommendation to the Handling Editor.
Editorial Decision: The Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor makes the final decision based on the reviewer reports and the Handling Editor’s recommendation. Possible decisions include:
Acceptance: The manuscript is accepted for publication as is.
Minor Revisions: The manuscript is accepted pending minor revisions.
Major Revisions: The manuscript may be reconsidered for publication after substantial revisions.
Rejection: The manuscript is not suitable for publication in MycoAsia.
Author Revisions: If revisions are requested, authors are typically given 30 days to revise their manuscript and provide a point-by-point response to the reviewers’ comments. The revised manuscript must also adhere to the journal’s formatting requirements.
Timelines and Communication
The editorial process, from submission to a final decision, typically takes 8–10 weeks. Authors who have not received a decision within 60 days are welcome to contact the Editorial Office at contact@mycoasia.org for a status update.
Post-Acceptance and Publication
Proofing: After acceptance, the corresponding author will receive a final proof of the formatted manuscript. Authors are responsible for carefully checking the proof for any typographical or formatting errors and returning corrections promptly. Major corrections that alter the scientific content are not permitted at this stage.
Publication: Once the final proofs are approved, the article will be published on the journal’s website, https://mycoasia.org. As an open-access journal, all published papers are immediately and freely available to download worldwide.
Transparency in Review: To foster accountability and recognize the contributions of our editors and reviewers, MycoAsia discloses the names of the Handling Editor and the peer reviewers (with their consent) alongside the final published article.
Policies on Publication Integrity
Conflicts of Interest (COI): To maintain editorial independence, any manuscript submitted by an editor, editorial board member, or co-founder is managed by an independent editor with no COI. The single-blind review process is strictly maintained to ensure impartiality and uphold the highest ethical standards.
Corrections and Retractions: MycoAsia is committed to the integrity of the scholarly record. Should any significant errors or inaccuracies be discovered in a published article, the journal will issue a formal corrigendum. This notice will be published in a subsequent issue to ensure transparency and maintain the accuracy of the scientific literature.
